Day 5a: Splashdown

I had no idea why I’m using NASA references.

I made it. Over 2,000 miles, 40+ hours of driving, numerous casualties, but it was worth it to see this today:

When I decided to do a blog, I vowed to myself I’d be brutally honest. That’s why you know of the Ring failure, the kayak failures, the license plate failure (wait, you don’t know about that yet), and creepy gas station sleeping.

I wasn’t prepared for this.

I rounded a curve and bam, there were the Tetons. Majestic seems insufficient. I started crying, ugly crying.

I’m not a crier. I don’t know if it was the beauty, my exhaustion, my relief, tons of sadness at experiencing it alone, or lots of pride at accomplishing alone. Probably a combination of all of that mushed together.

But wait, there’s more!

As I drove into the campsite, Jenn Grover recorded this incredible footage with her drone. I’ll be signing autographs when I return.

Last thing

Two things, really. One, check out the weather for Glacier National Park for this weekend.

And hi, Colleen and Gary!!

  1. I totally get it! Our 7 park visit in Utah was one spectacular scene after the next! Made me feel so small. It all was a truly religious experience. God is grand!

  2. That is a spectacular view! Glad you made it with only a few minor misadventures. Earl says it’s going to snow on you! Since she’s a groundhog, I’d say she has a 50-50 chance of being correct about the start of winter. Hope you brought or can get some warm clothes, boots, a shovel, and some sand. In the meantime, toast the Almighty for His amazing creations! Wow!
